Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lachlan Baird, has extended his warmest congratulations to the thousands of students and their proud families celebrating graduations across Papua New Guinea this month.

As ceremonies continue at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), PNG University of Technology (Unitech), and the University of Goroka, Mr. Baird urged the nation’s newest professionals to match their academic success with forward-thinking financial habits.

"Graduation is a proud moment, not just for the individual, but for the families, tribes and communities who supported and walked the journey," Mr. Baird said.

"As you transition into the workforce, one of the most important decisions you can make is to start thinking about your superannuation from day one. It may seem early, but time is your greatest advantage.”

Mr. Baird noted that many NSL Members often reflect that financial literacy and awareness of superannuation came too late in their careers.
“We hear it often from our Members, they wish they had understood the value of super earlier. This is your opportunity to take a different path and begin building from the start.”

He highlighted that graduates can fast-track their financial goals through Voluntary Contributions (VC), by setting aside even a small additional amount early in their careers.

“Starting early allows your savings to grow through compound interest, supports long-term goals such as home ownership and builds financial security for you and your family over time.”

Mr. Baird emphasised that superannuation should be viewed as a lifelong financial foundation that supporting Members through different stages of life and that managing superannuation goes beyond contributions.

“As your lives change, whether it’s starting a job, getting married, having children, or other milestones, it is critical to update your Member details and beneficiary nominations up to date,” he said.
