Assumptions

Projected super balance at retirement:

The projected total super balance takes into account your starting balance, employee and employer contributions, any additional voluntary contributions as well as interest earned between now and your retirement.

Retirement age:

We have assumed a default retirement age of 65. This can be adjusted in the calculator.

Working life:

The calculator assumes that you will have a continuous working life with no breaks up to your retirement age.

Interest rate:

The default investment returns have been set at 6.0%. This is based on the Nambawan Super 10-year average interest rate.

Employee contributions:

PNG Superannuation laws dictate that 6% is the mandatory minimum contribution for employees to make. Employees may choose to contribute more than the minimum.

Employer contributions:

PNG Superannuation laws dictate that 8.4% is the mandatory minimum contribution that employers have to make. Employers may choose to contribute more than the minimum.

Paul Sayer

Chief Executive Officer

Paul Sayer was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer in July 2017, overseeing the growth of the Fund from K6 Billion to now over K9 billion. With over 30 years of experience in Superannuation and Insurance, Paul is a proven leader in the field. He has held various senior positions in the Australian superannuation industry, including CEO of TWUSUPER and Chief Operating Officer of REST Industry Super.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Business and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Technology, Sydney. He also possesses a graduate Diploma of Organisational Leadership from the University of Melbourne. Furthermore, Paul is a Certified Practicing Accountant and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Insurance and Finance.


Verenagi Arava

Deputy Chief Executive Officer

Verenagi Arava was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer in June 2020. Prior to his appointment, Verenagi served as NSL’s Chief Financial Officer for four years. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Technology and a Master of Business Administration from the Central Queensland University.

Before joining Nambawan Super, Verenagi held the Chief Financial Officer position with the PNG Sustainable Development Program and Group General Manager Finance for the Steamships Trading Company Limited. He also has extensive private sector experience in various industries, including Industrial and Manufacturing, Shipping & Stevedoring, Property, Hotels Transport, Human Resource and IT. His experience encompasses finance and accounting, taxation, project development, funds management, and investment in all its facets.


David Kitchnoge

Chief Investment Officer

David Kitchnoge was appointed to the position of Chief Investment Officer in February 2021, after being promoted from his role as Deputy Chief Investment Officer at NSL. With over 20 years of experience, David spent most of his professional career at Deloitte, a renowned big four firm. David is a seasoned investment professional.

Before joining NSL, he served as the Head of Research & Advisory with Kina Funds Management, the Licensed Investment Manager for Nambawan Super. He also worked as a financial modeler in the structured finance division of BSP’s corporate banking business and as an executive manager at Kumul Consolidated Holdings.

David’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Accounting from Divine Word University, and he is also a Certified Practicing Accountant. With his expertise and qualifications, he brings a wealth of knowledge to his role as Chief Investment Officer.


Pochon Lili

Chief Financial Officer

Pochon Lili was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer in November 2020. He has over 10 years of experience in all areas of accounting having worked with two of the big four professional services firms PWC and Deloitte. Before joining NSL, Pochon was the Head of Finance for BSP Financial Group Limited. During his time at BSP Pochon also acted as General Manager on several occasions.

Pochon holds a Bachelor in Business and Management from the University of Papua New Guinea and is a Member of the Certified Practicing Accountants, PNG.


Beverlyn Malken

Company Secretary & General Manager Corporate Governance

Beverlyn was appointed General Manager – Corporate Governance in November 2020. She is a lawyer by profession with over 10 years of experience in litigation, commercial and corporate in-house advising. Beverlyn holds a Masters in Business Management from Divine Word University and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Papua New Guinea.

Before joining NSL, She was with Credit Corporation Group of Companies where she served as the Company Secretary and  also held other positions such as Group Corporate Services Manager and Group HR & Administration Manager.


Bait Wesley

Head of Internal Audit

Bait Wesley was appointed as the Head of Internal Audit in June 2023. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and is a Certified Practising Accountant under the CPA PNG. Bait brings with him 15 years of experience as an Audit Professional and 2 years as a Financial Controller.

Having worked in various organizations including KPMG, Coca-Cola Amatil, Hargy Oil Limited, Paradise Foods and MVIL, Bait is an experienced leader who has managed teams and worked in different capacities to achieve set targets and results. In this role, Bait aims to foster innovation and integrity in the NSL internal audit space, ensuring that Nambawan Super continues to adhere to the Prudential Standards of the Superannuation (General Provisions) Act 2000.


Annell Ovia

General Manager - People & Culture

Annell Ovia was appointed General Manager – People & Culture in September 2021. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Food Technology from UNITECH and a Degree in Business Management, Majoring in Human Resources from UPNG.

Annell is a passionate and motivated leader with more than 23 years of experience in the fields of Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Human Resource Management. She brings a wealth of experience and valuable leadership to NSL’s People & Culture Team, and is a key driver of the organisation’s efforts to maintain its standing as an employer of choice.


Maybellyn Fernandes

General Manager - Branding, Marketing and Communications

Maybellyn Fernandes was appointed General Manager – Branding, Marketing & Communications in September 2022. She brings with her, over 15 years of Sales & Marketing experience in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry. Having worked with large corporate organizations such as Coca Cola, SP Brewery and Trukai Industries, Maybellyn is an extremely results-oriented and driven professional.

Fostering a collaborative and high-performing work culture, she transitions into the Superannuation Industry bringing with her a ‘fresh perspective’, a passion for developing and building a strong team, and a proven track record of achieving targets.
