Assumptions

Projected super balance at retirement:

The projected total super balance takes into account your starting balance, employee and employer contributions, any additional voluntary contributions as well as interest earned between now and your retirement.

Retirement age:

We have assumed a default retirement age of 65. This can be adjusted in the calculator.

Working life:

The calculator assumes that you will have a continuous working life with no breaks up to your retirement age.

Interest rate:

The default investment returns have been set at 6.0%. This is based on the Nambawan Super 10-year average interest rate.

Employee contributions:

PNG Superannuation laws dictate that 6% is the mandatory minimum contribution for employees to make. Employees may choose to contribute more than the minimum.

Employer contributions:

PNG Superannuation laws dictate that 8.4% is the mandatory minimum contribution that employers have to make. Employers may choose to contribute more than the minimum.

Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced individual for the position of Manager Legal for our Legal Division based in the Head Office, Port Moresby. 

The role is responsible for providing a range of legal services to the Management, CEO and the Trustee ensuring members’ interests are protected whilst also ensuring operational excellence is maintained with NSL.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Legal & Advisory Services: Deliver sound legal advice, statutory interpretations, and opinions to the Management, CEO and the Trustee. Oversee contract management, conveyancing (including commercial leases), and draft various legal documentation.
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Professionally represent the organization across the District, National, and Supreme Courts. Utilise strong negotiation skills to successfully resolve disputes and avoid litigation where possible.
  • Strategic & Financial Management: Translate corporate strategy into actionable operational plans for the division. Manage, forecast, and optimize the section's operational budgets and resources.
  • People Leadership & Talent Development: Lead, coach, and mentor a team of legal professionals. Establish clear goals, drive performance, and implement robust succession plans to build long-term capacity.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Understand the BPNG Prudential Standards requirement, meet the Fit & Proper criteria, understand NSL internal policies, and industry best practices. Deliver timely compliance reports to the Executive Management and Board Committees.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Degree in Law (LL.B) and be admitted to the PNG Bar and have a valid Certificate to practice law.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal practice in PNG, with proven litigation experience in both the National and Supreme Courts. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in commercial law, contracts management, and complex conveyancing negotiation. 
  • Proven capacity to simplify complex legal concepts into sound, actionable advice.
  • Must strictly meet the BPNG requirements of a "fit and proper person".
  • Prior experience or deep understanding of Finance & Banking, Superannuation will be advantageous.
  • Exceptional capability to lead change, build professional relationships, and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • High emotional intelligence, meticulous attention to detail, diplomacy, and the capacity to work autonomously while driving results.
